Formal front garden, Fingringhoe

This project involved working with the client on the re-design of a large front garden to an attractive detached brick house. The original garden was looking tired and in need of refreshing. The existing lawn had become choked with moss and there were a number of dead and overgrown shrubs. The client also wanted to incorporate access around the garden and a number of seating areas for benches.

The work involved the construction of a winding brick path and seating areas using brick pavers laid in a basket weave pattern. A formal central feature was constructed consisting of a brick circle with a stone bird bath, positioned along the central axis from the front door and complemented with dwarf Lavender planted around the edge.

A low formal hedge of Prunus etna was then planted along the edge of the drive and the beds adjacent to the new path were planted with low maintenance shrubs and mulched before a new lawn was laid to finish off the garden.

“We would like to thank Green Man Gardens for the fantastic job you did for us in transforming our front garden. We were very unsure of what to do at the front of the house, and consequently had done nothing for many years. However, following your initial visit and your subsequent design proposals, we soon began to see the potential of this area. Little did we realise that the end result would be as impressive as it is. From the sympathetic design, to its implementation, including hard and soft landscaping, we could not fault you or your team. You were all a pleasure to have around, and kept to the agreed schedule, whilst also being flexible along the way when we asked for extra things to be done. We have recommended you to others, and will continue to do so. Thanks again, and you have now inspired us to look at the back garden, which we hope you will be able to design for us next year.”
